The University of Maine saw approximately 1,000 students and alumni serve in World War I and 3,900 serve in World War II. Dyer, Harold Jacobsen, 1915-

Harold J. Dyer was born Nov. 9, 1915 in Portland, Maine. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in wildlife conservation at the University of Maine, graduating in 1940. In 1941 he became chief ranger at Baxter State Park. After serving with the 87th Infantry Regiment in World War II, he returned to Baxter as a supervisor. In 1950 he became director of Maine State Parks and in 1958 joined the New York park system, retiring in 1983. Dyer died Oct. 8, 1999. From the description of Pa...
